Cathi’s Story

Cathi’s Story: Hope and Healing

Betrayed at a young age by a system designed to protect her, Cathi cycled through unhealthy and abusive relationships for years and eventually found herself living on the streets with her two young children. With no family support or ability to provide for her family due to a work-related back injury, Cathi had run out of options. She sought county support, and after three months of continued attempts to secure housing, Cathi finally received a phone call referring her and her children to the HomeAid Orange County Family Care Center.

Cathi was grateful to secure emergency housing, but also hesitant about the living and sleeping configurations at the Care Center. Upon meeting the staff and other clients, Cathi's concerns were quickly diminished. The care and support Cathi and her family have received while living at the Family Care Center have been overwhelming. Today, Cathi is preparing to start a new job and is receiving the care she needs to address her health issues. Her children are thriving in school and even started participating in school sports and an after-school program that works with service animals. Cathi and her children's stories are still being written, but they now have hope that they will be able to find affordable housing and a place to call home.
